Ash Lodge is a contemporary timber-clad country house on the edge of the Dorset village of Stourpaine, about 3 miles from Blandford Forum. A sitting room with log burner opens into a big, light kitchen and dining room made for family gatherings. There are four king bedrooms, two of them en suite, sleeping 10. Landscaped gardens wrap around the house with a decked terrace, heated pool (open April to September), hot tub, fire pit and zip wire, all behind an electric gated drive.
Ash Lodge is a contemporary country house built in 2008, timber framed with weatherboarded elevations above a brick plinth. The current owners have refurbished it throughout, with refinished oak floors, an upgraded kitchen, new cabinetry in the boot room and larder, and all of the bathrooms refitted to a high standard. The ground floor has underfloor heating.
Ground floor
The front door opens into a reception hall with a galleried landing above. To one side is the sitting room, with a modern log burner, French doors out to the terrace, and double doors through to the kitchen and dining room.
The open plan kitchen and dining room is the heart of the house. Two of its walls are full-height glazing looking over the garden, each with French doors straight out onto the terrace. The kitchen is built around a large central island, with a double Belfast sink, a Falcon range cooker with extractor, and a dishwasher. Off the kitchen is a fully fitted larder and preparation area with an American-style fridge freezer.
Next to this is the utility and boot room, fitted with plenty of cupboards, a washing machine and tumble dryer, and upholstered bench seating with shoe storage underneath. There is a side door here, and a cloakroom with basin and WC.
Also on the ground floor is a family room with French doors to the side terrace. Pocket doors connect it to the fourth bedroom, which has a king size bed and its own en suite shower room with a glazed double shower, marble topped washstand and WC. Opened up together, the family room and this bedroom work well as a self-contained suite for grandparents or for a family with young children.
First floor
The staircase rises to the galleried landing. The main bedroom suite has a king size bed, a vaulted ceiling and French doors to a large balcony with long views across the gardens and grounds. It has a walk-in dressing room with shelving and hanging rails, and an en suite bathroom with a freestanding bath, glazed shower, marble topped washstand, WC and panelled walls.
Two further large bedrooms, each with a king size bed and built-in wardrobes, share a shower room with a double shower, basin and WC.
With a king size bed in each of the four bedrooms, plus two single beds in one of the upstairs bedrooms, Ash Lodge sleeps 10.
Outside
An electric gated shingle drive leads through the front garden to a large parking area in front of the house, with a detached double garage alongside.
Landscaped gardens wrap around the house. There is a large L-shaped decked terrace off the main living rooms, a kitchen garden with raised beds and fruit trees, a timber framed greenhouse with a grapevine, and box and yew topiary. A wooded dell holds the children's play area and zip wire, and there is a fire pit area for evenings outside.
The heated swimming pool is set in its own secluded, gated area and is open from April to September (closed October to March). There is also a hot tub. From the gardens there are open views over paddocks and farmland up the valley.
